A
word about my credentials.
The
web is a crazy place sometimes. Everyone
is skeptical. No one believes anyone.
There's so much hype you could throw
up on a bad day.
The best thing I know to do is tell
you straight up what right I have to
tell you how to write sales letters.
One: I'm NOT going to promise you can make
$50,000 a year or a month or $2,000
a day. That's total hype. I don't know
you, your skills nor your background.
How could I guarantee such a thing?
Two: Several thousand people
have paid $3,000 to hear me present
my formula at one-day seminars. Listen,
people don't pay 3 grand to hear a bunch
of crap. Think about it. You better
have honest, viable, hard-hitting information,
or you're going to have a mutiny on
your hands (and mega refunds) in a flash.
Recently I have spoken at prestigious
seminars in London, England, Bermuda
and Las Vegas. Believe me, you don't
get invited to events like this without
credibility. I turned down a seminar
in Moscow.
Three: I have had a business
life outside selling you products on
how to make money on the Internet. Yes,
I make good money at it. But before
this product took off like a rocket,
my passion was using my crazy, stupid
little formula with clients who forked
over $5,000 to $12,000 because I helped
them make a lot more.
My best, long-term client had a net
worth exceeding several hundred million.
I've helped him sell his products and
seminars for as much as $20,000 using
my crazy formula.
How many of these dudes selling "How
to get rich on the Internet" have
even one client in the real world? Not
to mention a multi, multimillionaire.
But
I'm not bragging. When I started out, I was a dunce!
There
are many people I admire who were extremely
succesful at very young ages..
When
I started out, I didn't get it. Any
of it! I did about everything wrong
you could. My letters didn't work. My
ads didn't work. My marketing didn't
work.
The
only way I got where I am is by doing
a bunch of things that didn't work.
Eventually, I found the things that
do work.
A
lot of teachers have unconscious competence.
They are competent but they don't know
why or how they truly do it.
I
have conscious competence in that I
went through a lot of mistakes to get
where I am. So I know what I did to
get here. That means I know HOW to teach
it to others.
The
Skepticism of People Sometimes Shocks
Me!
The
other day I was having lunch with an
attendee at a seminar. I'll call the
person "Bill", although that
isn't the person's real name. Bill had
heard me speak at several seminars.
Bill owns several of my products.
We
were having lunch. Now, out of all the
questions in the world Bill could ask
me, what would you think his number
one question would be?
Something
about how he could make more money,
right?
Wrong!
His
question was, "So Marlon, do you
do this full time?"
I
about freakin' fell off my chair! Do
I what? Say again!
Then
his second question was, "Are you
making good money at it?"
I
was shocked. And I guess surprised that
someone who heard me speak and has read
my products would even ask that.
Then
I realized how truly skeptical some
people are about Net marketing. I'm
not blaming Bill. I do understand where
he's coming from.
In
case you have those questions, yes I
do this full time. Yes, I make a great
living. Yes, I made an excellent living
as a copyrwriter and speaker before
doing this.
I
have a full time customer service person
you can chat with most days on live chat from any of my web sites. Most
everyone in this business knows who
I am. Most every "guru" is
a personal friend of mine.
My
associate program is ranked in the top
ten by at least one popular directory.
Every month I pay out thousands in commissions
to associates around the world.
I
have customers in probably every country
you can name. And some you never knew
existed.
Marlon,
how long have you been doing this?
Another
question I get is "How long have
you been doing this?" As far as
writing direct response ad copy, I started
in 1978 dabbling in the field. Then
I moved to Dallas in 1982 and wrote
freelance.
I
wrote brochures and all that kind of
stuff for several years. I hadn't truly
learned my sales letter formula at that
point.
Later,
I become an accomplished and recognized
direct response writer and speaker.
I was marketing online before the World
Wide Web even existed.
Someone
the other day was even skeptical about
that! They sent me an email, "Marlon,
how could you do that? How could you
have marketed online before the World
Wide Web existed?"
The
answer is AOL and Compuserve. For any
of you who remember, they were huge
for online marketing back in those days.
In
fact, I was employed as a copywriter
at a company marketing on the pre-www
Internet via Veronica, Gopher and all
that jazz.
Anyway,
to sum up, I'm a very well-known and
respected author, marketer, speaker
and direct response writer. I know and
am friends with most of the "gurus"
in this industry. I'm quite successful
at what I do. And I have one full-time
customer service person.
OK,
that's all I can think of.
Oh,
one more thing. I believe I am still
the only Internet marketer with over
100 pages of testimonials published
online for a product. That oughta tell
you something.
And
for you skeptics, yes, the testimonials
are real. I'd go to jail if I made them
up because it's called fraud.
That's
really not a place I want to be. And
there's no reason for it because every
day I get new testimonials in my email
box.
If
that isn't enough for you, I guess you
can ask about my products in any online
forum concerning marketing.
And
if that isn't enough, don't order my
product! Because nothing I could say
will convince you otherwise.
